Bringing Pompom Monsters to Nanbu Yes Night Market

In May 2026, The Messy Good Lab joined Nanbu Yes Night Market for the first time with a special walk-in creative experience.

Instead of selling finished products, we wanted visitors to become part of the making process.

So we created a mini Pompom Monster Workshop, where anyone could stop by, choose a pompom base, and transform it into their own quirky little character.

Pick a Monster, Build a Personality

Before the market, we spent days preparing dozens of handmade pompom bases in different colours, patterns, and textures.

Visitors could choose the pompom that spoke to them, then browse through a collection of charms, decorations, eyes, and silly little details to create a monster with its own personality.

Some monsters looked cute.

Some looked chaotic.

Some looked completely unhinged.

And that was exactly the point.

No two monsters ended up the same.

Creativity Without Rules

One of our favourite moments was watching people who had never met before gather around the table, sharing ideas, laughing at each other’s creations, and helping bring strange little creatures to life.

The experience reflected what The Messy Good Lab is all about:

Messy is good. Make it yours.

There was no right or wrong way to create.

Just curiosity, creativity, and a little bit of chaos.

See You at the Next Market

Nanbu Yes Night Market was a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, share our workshops with the community, and see so many unique pompom monsters come to life.

We can’t wait to bring more playful creative experiences to future markets and events around Melbourne.
