Public Pompom Workshop in Melbourne

Most people arrived as strangers.
By the end of the afternoon, they were sharing stories, exchanging Instagram handles, and chatting like friends.
That’s one of our favourite things about running workshops...
In May 2026, The Messy Good Lab hosted a public Pompom Flower Charm Workshop in Northcote, Melbourne, bringing together a small group of six participants for an afternoon of creativity, conversation, and connection.
Some participants came with friends, while others joined on their own. Despite not knowing each other beforehand, the group quickly found common ground through the simple act of making something by hand.
More Than Just Making a Pompom
Throughout the workshop, participants explored colour combinations, experimented with different yarn patterns, and transformed simple materials into flower charms that reflected their own personalities.
One participant, who was studying Art Therapy, shared that she found the experience particularly meaningful.
During the workshop, we spoke about how creative decisions — from colour choices and design ideas to wrapping, shaping, and trimming — can often reveal aspects of our personality and how we see the world.
She described the workshop as a valuable opportunity for self-exploration, which sparked some wonderful conversations around the table.
It was a reminder that creativity isn’t just about making something beautiful. Sometimes it’s about learning something new about yourself.
Creativity, Connection and Conversation
One of the most rewarding parts of hosting public workshops is seeing how creativity naturally brings people together.
What started as a room full of strangers quickly became a space filled with conversation, encouragement, and shared curiosity.
Everyone left with a unique handmade creation, but more importantly, new connections, new ideas, and a few new friends.
As a facilitator, I also left feeling inspired by the stories, experiences, and perspectives shared throughout the afternoon.
